What it actually is
Picture a thin, strong arch of dental resin shaped like a full set of upper or lower front teeth, made to fit your mouth precisely. It snaps into place over your existing teeth and stays put by gripping their contours, then comes out again whenever you choose.
Because nothing is bonded and no enamel is removed, the underlying teeth are left as they are. That reversibility is the main reason people choose it. If you decide it is not for you, you simply stop wearing it, and your teeth are unchanged.
Who tends to choose it
It is a cosmetic appliance, not a restoration. It will not repair a cracked tooth, treat decay, replace a missing tooth root, or stop gum disease. Dr. Valter will be clear with you about which of your concerns it does and does not address.

What to expect
- Consultation. Dr. Valter examines your teeth and gums, treats anything that needs attention first, and discusses the shade and tooth shape you want.
- Records. Impressions or a digital scan of your teeth are taken, along with photographs. Nothing is drilled and no anesthetic is needed.
- Fabrication. A dental laboratory makes your appliance to those specifications. This takes a few weeks.
- Fitting. You try it in, and it is adjusted so it seats securely and feels comfortable. You practice putting it in and taking it out before you leave.
- Follow-up. We check in after you have lived with it for a while, since small adjustments are common at first.
Living with it, and keeping your own teeth healthy
You can eat with it in, though it is sensible to be careful with very hard, sticky, or chewy foods, and many people prefer to remove it for a heavy meal. It should be taken out at night, cleaned daily with the method we show you, and stored in its case rather than loose in a bag.
The most important point is this: the appliance covers your teeth, but it does not protect them. Plaque still forms underneath. Brush and floss your natural teeth thoroughly before putting it back in, and keep your regular cleaning appointments so Dr. Valter can check what is going on beneath it.
Common questions
Is Snap-On Smile® permanent?
No, and that is the point of it. It is a removable appliance you put in and take out yourself, and nothing about your natural teeth is altered to hold it in place. If you stop wearing it, your smile simply looks the way it did before.
Can I eat with Snap-On Smile® in?
Yes, most patients can eat normally with it, but there are sensible limits. Very hard foods, ice, and sticky candy risk damaging it, and some people find a full meal is easier without it. We will go over food guidance at your fitting.
Does it damage my natural teeth?
It does not require drilling or enamel removal, so the teeth themselves are not altered. The real risk is hygiene rather than the appliance: if plaque is left on your teeth and then covered for hours, decay and gum inflammation can develop. Cleaning your teeth before you put it in prevents that.
Can it replace a missing tooth?
It can cover a gap so the space is not visible, which is a cosmetic result rather than a functional one. It does not replace the missing root, does not stop the bone in that area from shrinking, and does not restore full chewing on that side. For that, ask Dr. Valter about implants or a bridge.
How do I clean it?
Take it out, rinse it after eating, and clean it daily using the method we demonstrate at your fitting. Do not use hot water, which can warp it, or abrasive toothpaste, which can scratch the surface and dull it. Store it dry in its case when it is not in your mouth.
Can I sleep with it in?
No, take it out at night. Your gums and teeth need time uncovered, and overnight wear makes plaque buildup underneath more likely. If you grind your teeth at night, tell Dr. Valter, because that needs a different appliance entirely.
